ABOUT DLR
THE EARLY DAYS TO NOW(50 YEARS LATER)
I have been drag racing since my Robert E. Lee High School days in Montgomery, Alabama during the late 50’s. After attending Auburn University, I returned to drag racing. In 1970 my wife and I ran the A/D class in Comp Eliminator with my first dragster. I have been in NHRA for a number of years and was the 5th driver in NHRA Division 2 to get my competition license. My original license, number 2D-005, was signed by Buster Couch, Southeastern Divisional Director, in 1972.
In 1975 I moved up to a blown alcohol dragster with the initiation of Pro-Comp, which later became Top Alcohol Dragster. Fortunately, I was born, raised and educated in the southeast and have always been active in my home division, Division 2. I have also been able to race throughout the eastern part of the country from Texas to Maryland and Florida to Canada with NHRA, AHRA, IHRA,UDRA and I am an active member of the Southeastern Drag racers assoc.. I served on the board of directors of the United Drag Racers Association.
Through the years we have had so many people help us with our cars. There have been crew members from all walks of life, each giving us their maximum effort for the enjoyment, the experience and a little “pizza and beer” along the way. There have been machine shops, parts houses and chassis shops all “behind the scenes” contributors that have also helped make this adventure a truly fantastic one.
